After moving to Seattle in 1983 he dove into the local scooter scene helping to form one of the more active clubs in the area - the Seattle Thunderbirds. He even launched the first Scooter Insanity rally in 1987 which still runs annually every September. On every rally, and every time he turned around, Victor found himself helping out other scooterists with repair and troubleshooting on their bikes. Before he knew what was happening, a business was born! In 1989 his hobby-profession was launched as Big People Scooters. What followed were many years of making scooters go and remaining highly active in the scooter community. His home-grown business steadily grew as people from all over the northwest began bringing their bikes for repair. He traveled to europe every year to buy parts directly from manufacturers. He maintained a commitment to quality parts that rivaled every company in the nation. He was truly a pioneer in bringing this kind of quality to the U.S. 2000 became a chief turning point in the Big People story. Victor completely remodeled the shop and began vying for a position in Vespa's return to the U.S. He immediately achieved official Vintage Vespa Repair Shop status and played a role in helping Vespa get grounded in the west coast market. Big People Scooters today has between 4 and 6 employees working full-time to repair the never-ending tide of vintage scooters. The company enjoys continuing its involvement in the local and west coast scooter community by supporting many events throughout the year. The future only looks brighter as plans with the Vespa corporation continue to unfold. Stay tuned to see what happens next! |
