>> Who We Are
Jeff Reese
| Scooting since 1986, Jeff currently owns five scooters as well as two 1940's Moto Guzzis. His favorite scooter is his green and white lambretta LI190. Through the years he has owned roughly 75 scooters, but the bike he wishes he had is an SX200 with no miles on it.
Jeff, a factory trained & certificated Piaggio mechanic, has been working at BPS for 8 years. He also worked on scooters for 2 years in Utah and for 4 years in Portland before moving to Seattle. He is BPS's main mechanic and also helps manage the shop. You can always find him in the back working on the scooters.
Jeff's favorite rally is the Denver SC Mile-High Mayhem rally because it's so well organized. He also attends about ten U.S. rallies annually and goes to | |
Europe every year to attend Eurovespa. (He's currently learning Italian for next year's in Rome.)
Back in the 80's Jeff was a member of the English Rose scooter club (if any of you remember). He is currently a member of the Wussy SC, Vespa Club of Seattle, and R Gang SC - and a founding member of all three to boot!
Favorite scooter story: Jeff got a Rally 200 in Portland for free, sold it for $1500. The guy who bought it, wrecked it. Jeff bought it back for $300 and fixed it up again. He sold it, bought it back, fixed it again, and finally re-sold it for $3500. He is currently waiting to buy it back. |
Karl Anderson
| Karl has been scooting for 10 years. His favorite scooter at the moment is his little "firefly"- a 100 Sport. His dream scooter is a Rabbit Superflow with stock hydrualics. Karl is a Piaggo factory trained and certified mechanic working with BPS for 2 years, but has been working on his own scooters for countless years!
His favorite rallies include Scooter Insanity 14's ride out to the Eagles club in Poulsbo Washington and the Puddle Jumpers Rally on Orcas Island 2001. He's a member of the Wussy SC - holding down #25 (AKA "Hotpants").
A favorite scooting story was Karl's trip to Japan last spring. Through Victor he met Mr. Nagasawa, the owner of "Second Life" (a Vespa/Lambretta repair shop in Yokohama). | | Karl was invited to join Nagasawa and his family and friends to host their annual scooter / motorcycle swap meet. Hosting turned out to include waking up in the dark at 4 AM, and riding an extended P frame (that Nagasawa got running the day before) with no kick start lever, no head light and no horn! They rode from Hashimoto, a rural outskirt of greater Tokyo, into the mountains on windy little roads (where he almost got lost and nearly froze) to the destination. Afterwards the whole crew scooted back into town to celebrate what had proven to be a successful day. The best part for Karl was the memory of watching all the scooters weave through traffic in the afternoon sun and how good it felt to be a part of it. |
Steve Calvo
| Steve has 30 years of dirt and street riding experience. His dream scooter is an ET4 in Ferrari yellow (which Piaggio will be producing this year). Steve is the guy responsible for matching people with the right scooter. He's quite good at it too! (Actually, his deep dark secret is that he used to sell Honda scooters but saw the light and is now a die-hard Italian scooter convert.) Steve says working for BPS is the most fun sales job has ever had, because he gets to sell what he believes to be the best product of its kind. | |
For Steve, the scooter that got away was P200E with a sidecar that he could have bought for $2000. He's kicking himself now. He's currently looking forward to the annual Scooter Insanity Rally in July. In the mean-time he's working on a top-secret scooter-related art piece, pictures of which will soon be on the website. (Hmmmm, we're wondering what it could be, too...) |
Robert Duke
|
Robert, another one of our scooter mechanics, comes from the engineering world with experience in machine shops, as well as a wide range of other vocations.
Robert bought his first Vespa in the summer of 1988. It was a green '74 Rally purchased in several boxes. Having no idea what a Vespa was, he assembled the bike jigsaw style in the basement of his Capitol Hill (Seattle) apartment. He claims it was one of the best summers in Seattle ever - riding with the pack during the explosion of grunge music. |
That same Rally has been restored once since then, totaled, and then restored again. Another restoration is a French Blue '61 Allstate, saved from the junk pile, now adorning his front hallway. And the current project he's working on is a '61 VNB which is getting a 200cc 4 speed motor. He's hoping to make the wheels spin faster while keeping the 8" wheels.
You can find Robert at many scooter events. He is a proud member of the Vespa Club of Seattle.

Sara Spriggs
Sara has been working as the BPS "Girl Friday" doing a little bit of everything around the shop for the past three years. As a junior member of the scooter scene, she first noticed scooters when she was about 14 and recently bought her first scooter, after two or three years of impatient waiting. (It's a banged-up, but still running, 1974 Vespa 90 which she is currently restoring. It's almost road legal so she'll be riding it soon!) Sara goes mostly to local rallies, but she did have the chance to go the the Vegas Jackpot rally with a friend this past February.
