>> how to plan a rally

have a great rally!

There's no time like NOW.

1. Just because it's never been done before doesn't mean you shouldn't do it!

The Emerald City Flying Monkeys liked camping so we started a yearly camping rally.

2. Don't go crazy on your first rally

it will drive you mad. Spending too much money or over-planning takes away from your own fun at the rally.

3. Ask friends to help but don't lose them over it.

Friends can flake on you, you can become bossy, they can become bossy, all the way around it stinks and causes more problems then it's worth.

4. Ride the planned route beforehand.

In a city, like Seattle, where two-way streets instantly turn into one-ways, and streets which are paved turn into cobblestone hills, this can be critical.

5.If you decide to have a meal stop call the place constantly to remind them you are coming!

Stress how many people will show up. Many times restaurants will forget about you or not believe there will be 20-30 for breakfast from one group of "what do you call yourself... scooterists?"

6. Scared of bad weather? Plan for it.

Make a shorter, safer route or have an alternate plan all together.

7. Can't afford pins/patches/t-shirts?

Don't worry and don't go cheapskate. Attendees want to be supportive and have a good time but when they want a patch, they want a good patch (and you know they'll pay for it). The same goes for pins, t-shirts. In the case of the VCOC, special beer with printed homemade labels is an excellent idea.

8. Flyers are cool and cheap.

Handout tons of them. Enough said.

9. Don't be late for your own rally!

This is bad form. It adds to confusion about when the rally is going to start and is a really annoying for anal, on-time people, like myself.

10. Who cares if there is low attendance!

Have fun. The first year for the Donut Run in Seattle had about 12 people but, man, they ate some 67 donuts.
